Wynn opens Las Vegas Encore
Steve Wynn's new Las Vegas $2.3 billion resort Encore has opened for business, creating 5,000 much-needed jobs in Las Vegas, which is still suffering from the downturn. Apparently 100,000 applications were received for the job vacancies.
To attract visitors, Wynn has dropped room rates at the 2,000 room Encore and at the neighbouring three-year-old Wynn Las Vegas by around 25 percent, apologising to competitors on the Strip but stating that he wants the rooms filled.
The ‘dry run' room rate that started around $159 (almost $100 below the opening offers in 2005 for Wynn Las Vegas) looks set to remain in place - at least until occupancy rates at Wynn's Las Vegas properties nudge 95 percent.
