US online gambling increases

Congressmen Barney Frank, chairman of the US House financial services committee, and Jim McDermott have announced that they intend to introduce a bill that will set up a legal framework for online gambling in the USA. "...we should make online gaming legal and subject it to a reasonable taxation like anything else," Rep Frank explained.

Shortly after Frank declared his intention, accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers revised its earlier estimate of the likely ten-year revenue take that could be enjoyed by the US Government from legalising and regulating online gaming would be $51.9 billion.

Despite the 2006 Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, (IGEA) which aims to prevent Americans from gambling online, it appears that online gambling has increased rather than declined in America since IGEA became law.
