Happy Birthday Games!
There are few milestones in the gaming industry such as the 10th Anniversary of Brazilian-based GAMES magazine. In a way it may have been owing to our own CASINO INTERNATIONAL’s efforts in the Latin America industry all those years back, as practically co-founders of Sao Paulo’s Salex expo, that first touched the imagination of journalist Carlos Cardama so that on 15 January 1997 he set out on a media adventure with much trepidation and loads of hope.
Of course, there was ambition too. Cardama says that he had the ambition to become the best in the business, and from the outset had the temerity to reach for such lofty heights. In a market ridden by instability and problems the talented GAMES team overcame the vicissitudes of the industry limitations and achieved expertise in the field.
From Sao Paulo, Cardama took his people to Italy to tempt the ever so tremulous amusement market in the exuberance of the new millennia, and then to the country of his birth, Argentina, and also Venezuela in a frenzy of media work. If there is anything that characterizes GAMES, it is that from its Sao Paulo base Gildo Mazza, photographer extraordinaire, also puts pen to paper to create some imaginative pieces to complement his effervescent shots of casinos in Las Vegas, London or Buenos Aires.
Mazza says: “It’s a real pleasure being part of such a wonderful team at GAMES. I have known Carlos for so many years now, and his professionalism is something that amazes me more each day.” In fact we can say exactly the same of Gildo Mazza.
GAMES’ calling card is its artistic front cover, which is of the highest quality seen only in expensive consumer glossies. Indeed, special inside advertising features also make effective use of quality board and PVC finishing that literally comes off the page. Cardama said: “We are in the image business, and casino equipment needs to be seen in all its splendour so that operators can ‘see’ it in their gaming rooms. We pay total attention to detail when we produce photography and art for our ad pieces”.
As far as going the extra mile, at last October’s SAGSE Buenos Aires event, GAMES helped take Latin America’s premier industry show into the big league by publishing for three days the show’s daily newspaper in full colour. It was another landmark in the life of our industry media, fittingly welcoming the 10th Anniversary of an impressive title.
