Gold Reef makes ‘Smart Move’ to cashless gaming with Atronic Systems

Gold Reef City Casino, Johannesburg has followed the trend of smart card operations in South Africa as players get more used to and comfortable with smart card gaming. The casino – one of the city’s four largest – has adopted Atronic Systems’ smart card cashless system solution, CHIP CASH, late in 2006.

The casino boasts a newly renovated smoking area containing 570 machines upgraded to cashless gaming, with the rest to follow through 2007. With a total of 1600 slot machines and 50 tables, Gold Reef City already supports Atronic Systems’ Crystal Web Player Tracking module coexisting with Aristocrat’s Dacom System.

The hugely successful opening ran smoothly due to a combined team effort between Atronic Systems and Aristocrat system engineers with the change over to the smart cards without any problems occurring. Director Key Account, Marius van der Merwe said: “The Atronic Systems team with the support and leadership of Ronald Narnhofer did a tremendous job supporting Aristocrat and to enable the smooth transition to CHIP CASH. We look forward to completing the rest of the casino floor in 2007 to change Gold Reef City to a complete coinless operation.”
