Welsh casino school first to deliver training against new UK standards?
Former gaming inspector and training officer Janet Miller has set up what she claims is Britain's first independent accredited training school for casino croupiers. Based in Cardiff, South Wales, Professional Croupier Training (PCT) provides intensive instruction on industry standard Blackjack, Poker and American Roulette tables, delivering training based on the new National Occupational Standards (see story above).
PCT worked closely with the Education Development International (EDI), a government-approved Awarding Body, like City and Guilds, and claims to be the first training company to be accredited against the newly-recognised UK national standards.
PCT's centre, which has capacity to train 100 people a year, will provide a six-week full-time, or 24-week part-time intensive course to small groups of trainees who work towards an accredited qualification for "Professional Croupier Gaming Skills" in American Roulette, Blackjack and Five Card Stud Poker, as well as key skills such as customer care, knowledge of gaming law, gambling awareness and social responsibility, and conflict resolution.
