Shuffle Master in ongoing legal row

A legal dispute over a patent relating to automated shuffler technology between Shuffle Master Inc and Elixir Gaming Technologies, Inc (formerly known as VendingData Corporation) has moved a little closer to settlement, following a ruling from the US District Court For The District Of Nevada. The court found that Elixir had not infringed Shuffle Master's patent, either literally or under the doctrine of equivalents.

The case began in 2004, when Shuffle Master brought an action to prevent Elixir from selling its new Poker-1 shuffler, obtaining a preliminary injunction, which was subsequently lifted.

Shuffle Master was required to lodge a $3 million deposit with the court against potential commercial damages to Elixir when it obtained the injunction, and is to appeal the District Court's ruling.
