Lightning Poker, Inc has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against PokerTek, Inc, which is contesting the lawsuit.

The complaint alleges that PokerTek infringes a United States Patent owned by Lightning Poker, which relates generally to an electronic poker table with a centre monitor screen showing multiple community cards and betting information for each player.

PokerTek is accused of using, selling and offering for sale poker tables that infringe Lightning's US patent. The complaint is seeking unspecified monetary damages from PokerTek and a permanent injunction barring the use and sale of all of PokerTek's products throughout the United States.

In response, PokerTek, Inc has stated that it believes that the allegations outlined in Lightning Poker's announcement are without merit. PokerTek believes that its products do not violate the patent that forms the basis of the lawsuit, or that the patent is invalid, or both. PokerTek intends to vigorously defend its intellectual property.

"This is not the first time Lightning Poker has sued us. Its last lawsuit was unsuccessful, and we will work to ensure a similar outcome here. We remain focused on growing our business and extending our lead in the marketplace," said Chris Halligan, PokerTek CEO.
