In a joint venture with the owners of Barajas y Naipes de Mexico, Cartamundi and Copag have set up Cartamundi de Mexico, a new playing card manufacturer in Mexico City, Mexico.

Barajas y Naipes de Mexico is a leading playing card company in the Mexican market. Founded in 1969 by Antonio Skorlich, it has the capacity to produce 5 million decks a year, specialising in cards with Spanish faces, but its range includes Poker, Canasta, promotional cards, and cards for the Mexican Loteria.

The new company aims to become the market leader in Mexico. "The marketing and technical know how of Cartamundi and Copag together with the experience in the local market will enable us to realise this target," says Chris Van Doorslaer, CEO of Cartamundi.

Meanwhile, Copag Brasil is opening a new sales office in Santiago de Chile. "Similar to the sales structure of Cartamundi in Europe, where the company has sales offices in most countries, Copag plans to develop by creating subsidiaries to be closer to the market. Together with the new factory in Mexico this will increase our growth in Latin America," says Ricardo Gonçalves, CEO of Copag.
