Clampdown on Chinese visitors
The Chinese authorities are seeking to slow down the rate at which mainland residents visit, and gamble, in Macau. Further travel restrictions have been placed on citizens of mainland China.
Rather than being allowed to stop over in Macau for up to 14 days if they are breaking a journey, Chinese passport holders can now only stay in Macau for up to seven days, and they will no longer be able to enter Macau via Hong Kong unless they have a visa.
In May, China limited its residents to one visa a month to for Macau visits, and then reduced entitlement to one visa every two months.
Foreign workers in Macau will soon have to be differentiated from locals by badges or uniforms.
