The legislation requires the signature of the President to come into force and could see the first gaming licences being awarded in 2010, depending on how quickly a regulatory infrastructure can be developed and put in place.

Progressive Gaming International about to close?
Progressive Gaming failed to make a January deadline to pay $17 million to one of its backers, with the result that a foreclosure sale of its assets was triggered. No-one at Progressive Gaming's UK office was available for comment on 16th January, and for some days previously the US Headquarters phone number delivered a recorded message giving the trading hours and advising callers that the offices were closed - no matter what time we called.

Google chases Adwords revenue
Google is now allowing companies without gaming licences to use adwords to promote gaming services in the UK, subject to its approval and subject to terms and conditions that include prominent links to gambleaware.co.uk or gamcare.org.uk as well as age validation systems.
eCOGRA expands its online remit
Independent standards body eCOGRA (e-Commerce Online Gambling Regulation and Assurance), which oversees fair gaming, player protection and responsible operator conduct for online casinos and poker rooms, is now including sports betting, internet bingo and other online gambling operations in its remit.
Macau revenues up 31 percent
Despite a comparative downturn in the fourth quarter of 2008, revenues for casinos in Macau rose by almost a third, year-on-year, to around 13.7 billion US dollars according to figures released in January by the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau of the Special Administrative Region.
