Rank helps Isle leave the UK

Grosvenor Casinos, owned by British leisure gaming company, The Rank Group, has paid £650,000 for the casino at Coventry City Football Club's Ricoh Arena.

Current operators, Isle of Capri, built the Coventry casino in the hope of a ‘supercasino' licence, but the company is leaving the UK market to mitigate its losses now that the expected changes in UK laws have not materialised.

Rank plans to invest a further £1 million to refurbish and re-brand the site as a G Casino, and has bought the lease liability from Isle.

Phil Urban, Managing Director of Grosvenor Casinos said: "I am excited at the prospect of bringing the G Casino to Coventry as part of the superb Ricoh Arena."

Meanwhile Rank has announced that it is investing £1 million in its casino in Bolton, which, the company says, will feature some of the most technologically-advanced  gaming equipment on the market, an enclosed 143-seat Poker room, and a Mediterranean-inspired restaurant called The Gallery.

The Bolton venue is the seventh to be branded a G Casino by Rank, which operates 33 casinos.
