Great Foundation charity to recognise generous donors

Britain’s new responsible-gaming charity the Great Foundation will present its first awards at IGE on 26 January.

They “will recognise those gaming organisations whose donations [to the foundation] have exceeded reasonable expectations”, it said.

The awards at gold and silver level reflect donations between April and the end of November.

During the year, the foundation has raised about £4.35m ($7m), short of its 2009-10 target of £5m ($8m).

“I can’t think of another industry that has done more of its own volition to help the proportionately small numbers who get into problems gambling,” said Geoffrey Godbold, CEO of the Foundation.

“The industry has been very successful in hiding its light under a bushel in this area and I hope that the awards will provide a platform from which the business can broadcast its achievements and successes, which eclipse those of other high-profile sectors.”

The awards presentation will take place in the Earls Court Seminar Theatre.
