Rank closes one, opens another in Sheffield, UK

Rank Group subsidiary Grosvenor Casinos opened its G-branded venue in the northern English city of Sheffield in December, just a week after closing its Grosvenor-branded site in the same city.

Ian Turver, General Manager of the new casino, said: “It differs from the Grosvenor Casino in that we’ll be putting as much emphasis on the non-gaming activities such as the live entertainment and the restaurant as we will on the gaming. And of course the environment makes all the difference. The new G Casino will have a modern, contemporary look and feel.”

The 23,500-square-foot facility has ten gaming tables offering Roulette, Blackjack and Three Card Poker, 33 electronic gaming terminals for Roulette and Blackjack, and 24 jackpot slots.

The electronic terminals are linked to both live and automated Roulette, while the Blackjack is semiautomated.

Among the slots, 20 are Category B1 with a 4000 Euro ($6400) jackpot, while four are Category B3 units.

The 5m Euro ($8m) casino, Grosvenor’s tenth Gbranded location, also has a 100-seat Poker room. Nongaming facilities include lounge, stage and restaurant.

It is a conversion of the former Rank-owned Mecca Bingo building in Duchess Road, empty since bingo ceased there nearly three years ago.
