At the beginning of last month, Judge Hadolff Ascencio, presiding on Santiago’s Sixth Civil Court, suspended the casino licensing process for the Valparaiso Region in Chile.
The judge’s decision is part of a Court injunction requested by Thunderbird Resorts Inc.’s local subsidiary Thunderbird IEG Algarrobo, which has asked the Court to annul the licensing process, in search of its reinsertion into the said process.
Thunderbird was disqualified by the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego (SCJ), the local Gaming Commission, along with other subsidiaries from the North American company earlier in the year, and the judge’s resolution is seen as a measure to help Thunderbird in its fight against the SCJ, as it seeks a casino licence for the city of Algarrobo in Chile.
Indeed, the judge’s decision has lent strength to Thunderbird’s legal arguments presented by the company, asserting that it had complied with every legal requirement at the time of registering its project for licensing. Peter Le Sar, Thunderbird’s principal executive in Chile said: “Thunderbird’s reinsertion in the casino licensing process will enable fair and equitable competition on the pending casino licences, in direct benefit of the local communities where the projects are located, which was the State’s main interest when the casino legislation was approved.”
Will the plans for Russia's 'remote' gaming areas go ahead as the State Duma has described?
