The Chilean Senate approved by 24 votes, with two abstentions, the Lower House project to postpone the casino licensing process.
For some time, legislators, operators and investors had been questioning the process, and the idea is to have time to resolve some deficiencies in the 2005 Casino Law, which sets up the general basis for authorization, operating and auditing of the country’s casinos.
The Senate’s approval means that the Law project now goes back to the House of Deputies for a period up to September 30, 2007. The licensing of casinos originally was due to have started within the first two months of 2007.
Senator Jovino Novoa said during the Senate debate: “It has been clearly established that the intention of the project is to postpone the new round of tendering and in no way will it affect the rest of the responsibilities of the casinos, whether they are operating or about to be authorized”.
Will the plans for Russia's 'remote' gaming areas go ahead as the State Duma has described?
