Editor's Comment - February 2007
February 2007 - ICE issue
Published:  01 February, 2007

So much is going on at the moment, it’s hard to know where to begin. At the end of January, we may finally get an answer about the location of the UK’s ‘supercasino’ – but then who knows, we may not.

So much is going on at the moment, it’s hard to know where to begin. At the end of January, we may finally get an answer about the location of the UK’s ‘supercasino’ – but then who knows, we may not. After all, it’s been held up for inane reasons already, so who knows what excuses might yet come forth? Looking positively though, we should know at least the CAP’s suggestion by the end of January. If the decision goes toward London’s Dome, I will lose a lot of faith in the decision-making process. Coventry, a city crying out for rejuvenation, is already out of the running; Great Yarmouth, figurehead for Norfolk’s largely depressed coastal towns, is also out. I hope the decision goes to Blackpool, as of the remaining towns and cities it would benefit most and has the infrastructure to cope with an influx of tourists. It also needs serious rejuvenation and soon.

On a slightly lighter note, I’m running the Las Vegas marathon in 2007 for the UK anti-bullying charity Kidscape (www.kidscape.org.uk). They do wonderful work, and you’ll be able to read more about them in forthcoming issues. Injury allowing, I hope to raise many thousands of pounds for them and will no doubt be chasing you all for sponsorship money for this outstanding charity in the coming months!

I’ve come this far without mentioining ICE… but if you’re reading this, chances are you’re already at the show. Enjoy it, and stop by the Casino International stand and say hi, we’d love to meet you.

Poll

Will the plans for Russia's 'remote' gaming areas go ahead as the State Duma has described?

  • Yes, almost certainly. It's a great idea.
  • Maybe, with a few revisions it could work.
  • Don't be absurd, it's a crazy plan.
