Not to be too UK-centric, but it’s hard not to be riled by the latest budget to come from Gordon Brown’s incredible imagination. It’s not one that gives the UK’s voters any confidence in the man, and I think his plans of staying in the Prime Ministerial hotseat have been dealt a blow by his short-sighted budget – not to mention its long-term effects on the gaming industry. We’ll be featuring more on that next issue, as the repercussions die down and reasoned debate resumes.
Governments hold in their hands the life or death of industries, and with that comes huge responsibilities. Look at the situation in Russia, as it is developing; it seems irresponsible to mount such a major U-turn when it’s the people’s jobs and lives that are affected massively. In the UK, the goverment has been classically myopic for much of its incumbency and this shows no sign of abating with the budget and problems getting the regional gaming licenses through the Houses of Lords and Commons. Still, it keeps the industry interesting…
