GLI Europe and SMI enter partnership
Published:  01 July, 2007

GLI Europe, based in Hillegom, The Netherlands and Bologna, Italy, and SMI Software & Messtechnik Institut (based in Graz, Austria) have combined to create Austria’s most extensive and capable testing laboratory, adding to GLI’s presence throughout Europe.

The transaction creates a new entity, GLI Austria, which will work in concert with other GLI Laboratories around the world to provide testing results to regulators and suppliers everywhere. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The move allows GLI Austria to serve international customers and markets even better than before. GLI President James R. Maida said: “We have tremendous respect for our new managing director of GLI Austria, Heinz Winkelbauer. He is extremely well-versed in the Austrian, German and other European markets and has an impeccable reputation. We are proud to welcome him and his team to the GLI family.”

The combined entities will reach more clients in Europe than any other gaming test lab.

Winkelbauer said: “GLI’s worldwide reputation and its access to more than 400 gaming jurisdictions will assist European manufacturers to expand into markets outside of Europe. As part of the network of GLI laboratories that stretch from Australia, through Asia, the US and now throughout Europe, GLI Austria will now be able to offer our clients the convenience of transferring certification letters across jurisdictions around the world, which a very exciting development. Simply put, every jurisdiction that uses independent laboratories accepts GLI results worldwide, and that is very compelling for the clients that we serve.”

Maida concluded: “This is about serving our customers better. Now we combine SMI’s capabilities with GLI’s global reach and 24-hour workday, and there simply is not a better test lab for Europe and beyond.”

Poll

Will the plans for Russia's 'remote' gaming areas go ahead as the State Duma has described?

  • Yes, almost certainly. It's a great idea.
  • Maybe, with a few revisions it could work.
  • Don't be absurd, it's a crazy plan.
