Three destination resort casinos will be built by 2012 in different regions of Massachusetts, if proposals supported by Governor Deval Patrick are approved and enacted.
“After thoroughly reviewing the arguments and the analysis on both sides of the issue, I believe authorizing three resort casinos will have significant economic benefits to Massachusetts,” he said.
It’s claimed that the initiative, if successful, will result in tens of thousands of jobs and ultimately create billions of dollars in new revenue for the Commonwealth that the Governor pledges will be dedicated to road and bridge repair and construction, and to muchneeded property tax relief for more than a million local homeowners.
The plan, which is still being debated, would see three, ten-year licences for destination resort casinos put up for bid, a process that in itself is expected to generate at least $600 million in revenue for the state.
The three casino licences would be granted in three regions, and lead to $400 million in annual revenue for the state, creating 20,000 permanent jobs by 2012, the proposal claims. And at least one of the bids would have a tribal component.
“Destination resort casinos, instead of slots at tracks, guarantee greater job creation and diversified employment opportunities in hotels, restaurants, conferences and other accommodations that complement the existing tourism, recreation and hospitality industries in the Commonwealth,” the Governor said.
Will the plans for Russia's 'remote' gaming areas go ahead as the State Duma has described?
