The cabinet's interior is perfectly compartmentalised for ease of access, if maintenance is required, and the split door design gives increased security. The cabinet itself features an economical footprint which will appeal to casinos large and small.
One of the most striking features is the bottom art panel; Viridian has one instead of three, and it's curved to achieve a three-dimensional effect.
One of the cabinet's main talking points is its 'green' credentials: with lower power consumption, it costs less to run, features no incandescent lighting and is set up to dissipate internal heat with pipes and better ventilation, so there's no need for fans. In terms of its construction, it is compliant with the Reduction in Hazardous Substances standard, which means less toxic chemicals used in the manufacturing process.
But as Julie Witherby, Aristocrat's European Product Marketing Manager, explains: "It's not just about the green-ness of the machine; that is just one benefit of the new machine, there are other benefits namely the platform which has greater power so that we can provide better games now and for the future.
Games are installed by Smart Card, rather than EPROM. This means quick game conversions, more convenient handling and storage and lower risk of corruption.
The Gen7 platform is what powers the new breed of games on Viridian, offering higher resolution graphics, enhanced sound, greater features and the Universal Player Interface [UPI].
"Gen7 has more processing power which means it is able to drive richer game content with its ten times more memory, eight times faster CPU, three times more serial ports, five new USB ports, five times faster bus speed and two extra video outputs.
"The Viridian will be launching with two native games, which will have all the functionality of the Viridian. These native games have Dynamic scorecards in the top box and UPI functionality which means that you pick your bet and line combinations on screen and simply press the Play button to activate the game.
"As well as these two Viridian Native games we will also be releasing 13 new standalone games on the Viridian cabinet. On the linked side, we will be releasing two Hyperlinks on Viridian – Thunderheart, our exciting motorbike-themed Link and Money Train, our first multigame product, which offers fours games in one machine.
"It is a very exciting time at Aristocrat to be launching such a highly advanced cabinet. With its great range of games and new functionality we are expecting it to be a huge success in Europe.”
