Over 90 per cent of gaming machines shifted away from Moscow
Published:  01 July, 2006

According to Vladimir Malyshkov, head of consumer market and services department in Moscow, the process of moving slot machines away from market places, transport stations and some other social establishments is actively happening.

"It was set a mission to dispose of gaming business from shops, and dining places. And 90 per cent of the task has already been performed. But in some places gaming machines are still operated. Their owners are involved in court trials with the storekeepers. The penal sum would be compensated by shops and by the venues as well depending on the situation. The problem objects for us are those gaming halls operating not inside the shop but adjoined to it. It was agreed that they'll remain until January 2007 and in case they fail to recover approval they will be shifted away." "It is impossible to forbid everything. The Federal draft law is being prepared after it has been passed through the two hearings. It would be quite restrictive. But after coming into force the law enables to resolve problems much easier. This year almost 1270 of all gaming units have been removed."

Poll

Will the plans for Russia's 'remote' gaming areas go ahead as the State Duma has described?

  • Yes, almost certainly. It's a great idea.
  • Maybe, with a few revisions it could work.
  • Don't be absurd, it's a crazy plan.
