Bangor University's Centre for Advanced Software Technologies (CAST Ltd) has become the first organisation in the UK to gain approval from the Gambling Commission to test gaming machines for legal compliance.
CAST's Compliance Testing Laboratory (CTL) now offers testing and certification services to gambling device operators. In addition to formal Gambling Commission-approved compliance testing, CAST offers
pre-compliance consultancy services (including simulation of developmental games), performance testing of FOBT and VAWP devices (including analysis of software, hardware, peripherals, middleware and comms), and high-specification data visualisation of production gaming systems.
With ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accreditation (Testing and Calibration Services), CTL will also draw on the full range of CAST's advanced software technology expertise to offer assurance, data analysis, performance testing and consultancy services to gambling operators as part of a broader service to the industry.
In response to the new standards published by the Gambling Commission, CAST has expanded its specialist testing laboratory located at the Technium CAST facility in Bangor to draw in academic expertise in consumer psychology, statistics, and the economics of gambling from its parent, Bangor University.
In partnership with the University, CTL will offer a range of social responsibility services to the gambling industry, designed to spot the signs of potentially addictive behaviour patterns within a gambling environment.
