Boom years for Macau casinos

Macau, which now has 27 casinos open for business, is expected to record gross revenues of some 83 billion patacas ($10 billion) in 2007, according to a report in The Macao Post Daily. This represents a 46.5 percent increase, year on year.
In its first two days of operation, the MGM Grand Macau is understood to have taken 51.5 million patacas ($6.6 million).
l At the start of 2008, Macau's SJM (Sociedade de Jogos de Macau) gaming company said it plans to rebuild the landmark casino resort Hotel Lisboa - the project is due to begin in 2009 and is expected to complete in 2012. The company aims to raise $1 billion through an IPO in 2008.
