GTECH joins the top five and continues shopping...
Published:  01 March, 2008

Lottomatica Spa's wholly-owned subsidiary, GTECH Corporation, has acquired a 50 percent controlling interest in the Atronic group of companies from the privately-held Gauselmann for €20 million in cash.

GTECH intends to acquire the remaining 50 percent of Atronic for a further €32 million. The transaction is subject to routine regulatory reviews and approval prior to the closing, which will occur in 2008.

The overall transaction is expected to have a total value of approximately €172 million, which includes some €120 million of debt, and moves GTECH into the top five suppliers to the worldwide machine gaming market, the company claims.

Meanwhile GTECH has allied with Medstroms AB to make a cash offer for all outstanding shares of Boss Media in a deal with a value of €99 million. GTECH expects to fund the GTECH portion of the transaction from existing cash balances.

GTECH President and CEO Jaymin B Patel said, "The acquisition of Boss Media is an important element of GTECH's growth strategy. At the same time, we view ourselves as being the perfect partner for Boss Media in accelerating the roll-out of their cutting-edge systems for internet-based gaming, as we can offer a global market presence and a customer base consisting of a significant portion of Boss Media's targeted leads."

Medstroms' CFO Jan Westholm said, "When combined with GTECH, Boss Media will be afforded access to World Lottery Association (WLA) customers in all parts of the world, which we believe will facilitate a faster roll-out of Boss Media's products and services on a global scale. Medstroms participated in the founding of Boss Media in 1997, and has been supporting the company as its largest shareholder since that time. We view this transaction as the optimal way forward for Boss Media, and we want to continue to contribute to their future growth in a privately-held environment."

...while Atronic collects awards.

Atronic's Harmony Slant Top cabinet and Roaring Tiger mystery jackpot were selected as two of the top 20 products for 2007 by International Gaming and Wagering Business.

According to Atronic, stylish design and forward-thinking ergonomics that take player comfort to new levels helped move the Harmony Slant Top to the fore, while Atronic's four-level mystery jackpot Roaring Tiger earned its place on the list for its flexibility that allows operators to fully tailor jackpot base values and increment levels and to meet individual requirements and preferences.

Atronic's CEO, Gerhard Burda said "We are extremely pleased with having achieved these prestigious awards."

Poll

Will the plans for Russia's 'remote' gaming areas go ahead as the State Duma has described?

  • Yes, almost certainly. It's a great idea.
  • Maybe, with a few revisions it could work.
  • Don't be absurd, it's a crazy plan.
