Caesars UK bought by new gaming entity

In a surprise move, Caesars UK has been bought by two private equity firms, it is emerging. Sources have revealed to Casino International that the purchase – the details of which are still sketchy – was completed on July 16th, to a newly-formed entity called Metropolitan Gaming.

The new company was formed by US investment firms Silverpoint Capital and Lancer Capital. New ownership applies immediately.

It is unknown whether the purchase also involves the group’s EMEA interests.

Silverpoint is a New York-based private equity investor with a historical stake in Caesars, and apparently extensive experience in the sector; they also own some suppliers within the casino sector.

Lancer is solely owned by Avi Glazer, the controversial majority owner of Manchester United FC, still one of the sports world’s most valuable brands. His stewardship of the club attracted ire from fans after the leveraged purchase saddled the club with debt. He also owns US NFL franchise Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
